Rajgarh (MP): Senior Congress leader
Digvijay Singh on Tuesday sustained minor head injuries in
stone-throwing by his own party workers during a demonstration
against power cuts here.
Singh suffered the injuries when Congress workers were
trying to force their way inside the district collectorate to
submit their demands like putting an end to unscheduled power
cuts in the district.
Along with Singh, three Congress MLAs from the district
were also injured in the incident and taken to the hospital.
All the three were discharged.
The Congress General Secretary later left for Bhopal
Eyewitnesses said that police resorted to lathi-charge
and bursting of teargas shells to control the agitating
Congress workers but Rajgarh Collector Shivanand Dube told agency
that no such action was taken by the police.
He said Singh was injured in stone-pelting.
Rajgarh Superintendent of Police Asha Mathur told agency
that six policemen, including two police station in-charges,
were injured in the stone pelting.
The district collectorate was also damaged in the
incident, she said.
Meanwhile, protesting against the Raigarh incident
agitated Congressmen in Bhopal and Indore burnt effigies of
the state`s BJP government.
The Congressmen also announced a statewide agitation
against the attack on the former Chief Minister.
