New Delhi: With just four months left for
the Commonwealth Games, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today
said all infrastructure projects being undertaken by her
government as part of its preparation for the event will be
completed much before the deadline.
"We will finish all the projects on time well ahead of
the commencement of the event on October 3. I will complete my
responsibility," Dikshit said when asked whether she was
satisfied with the preparation.
On reports that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will not
be present at a function for launch of tickets of the event,
Dikshit refused to comment.
Delhi Government has undertaken projects worth over Rs
15,000 crore to improve infrastructure in the city ahead of
the Games to be held from October 3 to 14.
On whether her government has decided to ask the
Central Vigilance Commissioner to conduct a probe against
certain companies given contract to install street lights in
several areas of the city, Dikshit said a final decision on
the issue is yet to be taken.
PWD Minister Rajkumar Chauhan, during an inspection of
the streetlight installation project, had said his department
may request for a high-level vigilance probe into the
"sub-standard" work done by the companies and orders have been
issued to blacklist them.
The Commonwealth Games will be the biggest sporting
event to be held in the country after the 1982 Asian Games.
The city government has been facing flak for its tardy
preparations for the event. Because of delay, the government
had to extend deadlines for several projects.
