Dikshit continues inspection of CWG works for second day

New Delhi: With the pressure building up to complete several key projects linked to Commonwealth Games,

a concerned Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit continued her inspection of works for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, strictly directing the agencies concerned to finish all work by the new deadline of August 31. During a visit to Barapullah Nallah elevated road project, her second in last one week, Dikshit directed PWD to expedite pace of work so that it again does not miss the deadline. PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan and several top officials also accompanied her. "Dikshit strictly told the implementing agency to complete the project as soon as possible," said a official accompanying her. The elevated road between Sarai Kale Khan and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main venue of the event, is being built to provide uninterrupted traffic flow from Games Village near Akshardham temple to the stadium. The four-km road is being constructed at a total cost of Rs 499 crore which will become an easy link between east Delhi and south and central Delhi after the Commonwealth Games. The all important project has already missed several deadlines. Officials now said they are confident of completing all the works by August 15. "We have completed over 90 per cent of the work already." With the countdown beginning for the mega event, the chief minister last week had set August 31 as new deadline for completing all the projects linked to the Games. Dikshit and Chauhan had yesterday visited various project sites to take stock of progress of work. Sources said Dikshit was not happy with pace of work on several projects and pulled up various implementing agencies also yesterday for their lack of seriousness. Chouhan too had warned the officials yesterday against any complacency and said the government would not hesitate to take action against those found negligent in duties. Dikshit had yesterday set July 31 as deadline for Delhi Metro to hand over various roads currently under its control along the upcoming Metro lines to PWD and other agencies so that beautification and relaying of roads could be started thereafter. She had also set August 10 as deadline for all civic agencies to removing all construction waste and other garbage across the city. PTI
