Phulbani, Dec 12: Eminent cinestar of
yesteryears Anima Pedini passed away here this morning
following prolonged illness.

Pedini, 83, had been ailing for the last several months,
family sources said.

One of the few Oriya girls who ventured to make a mark in
the world of theatre six decades ago, she was involved with
several theatre groups including Annapurna, Janata and
Kalashri -- which created waves in the Oriya cultural scene
years ago -- before making her debut in films.

She had acted in several Oriya and two Bengali movies.

The Oriya films in which she featured included 'Nari',
'Kulachandrama', 'Nagaphasa', 'Mukti', 'Stree' and 'Ei Ama
Gaan Jhia'.

Pedini had been felicitated by the Orissa Sangit Natak
Akademi as also by several cultural organisations.

She also worked as a senior staff artiste in the song and
drama division of the I&B Ministry before retiring several
years ago. She had been living here for the last three years.
