Former MP Lallungmuana Mizoram opposition candidate

Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) and Mizoram People`s Conference (MPC) combine announced that former LS member H Lallungmuana would be the alliance`s candidate for coming election to the lone Aiwawl Lok Sabha seat.

Aizawl, March 25: Opposition Mizo National Front
(MNF) and Mizoram People`s Conference (MPC) combine today
announced that former Lok Sabha member H Lallungmuana would be
the alliance`s candidate for coming election to the lone
Aiwawl Lok Sabha seat.

Former legislator, K Lalsanga would contest for the
by-poll to South Tuipui assembly seat.
Elections to both the seats would be held on April 16.

Announcing this in a joint press conference, former
minister and MPC leader Col Lalchungnunga Sailo said the
two-party combine chose the candidates who would be widely
acceptable to the people.

Lallungmuana was elected as an Independent candidate
supported by MPC and Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) combine in
1998 when he defeated his nearest Congress rival and veteran
Congress leader John Lalsangzuala by a margin of 41 votes.

K Lalsanga, the official candidate of People`s
Conference led by then chief minister Brig T Sailo was elected
into the state assembly in 1979 in South Mizoram`s Buarpui
seat, defeating his nearest PC (B) rival H Kiautuma by a
margin of 1,886 votes.

Opposition leaders said the nominees of the alliance
would be `Mipui candidate` or nominee of the people and would
contest the polls as Independents.
