Coimbatore: A city-based gastro enterology hospital, in association with philanthropists and the public, is setting up a forum to create awareness about ill-effects of obesity and to emphasise the preventive aspects of related diseases.
Initialy named as Kovai Obesity Foundation, the forum would provide education on treatment of lifestyle disorders like diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemias and most
importantly, obesity. It would also conduct awareness campaigns, programs rallies and medical camps, Dr C Palanivelu, Diretor, GEM Hospital and Research Centre and
Managing Trustee of the proposed foundation, told reporters here today.
The foundation would be inaugurated by Tamil actor Sivakumar on Oct 23 on the eve of World Obesity Day, falling on Oct 24, he said.
It was also proposed to have a tie up with DRDO, through Bharathiar University to carry out research in obesity and Dr Sivathanupillai, CEO, Brahmos Aerospace, would be present at the inaugural function.
A free awareness and surgical camp for obesity and diabetes would be conducted at the hospital on Oct 24, Palanivelu said.
