Johor Bahru: Rahil Gangjee went on a birdie-spree to turn in a five-under 67 and rise to the tied 17th spot after the second round of the Johor Iskander Open golf tournament here on Friday.
Gangjee sent down eight birdies -- five of them in the front nine -- against just three bogeys for a two-day total of five-under 139.
A stroke adrift of Gangjee was Digvijay Singh, who returned a three-under 69 for a share of the 22nd spot.
Gaganjeet Bhullar dropped to tied 29th after returning an even-par 72 that left his overall total at three-under 141.
Anirban Lahiri was the fourth Indian to stay in contention for weekend action after carding an improved five-under 67 in the second round to total even-par 144 – the cut off mark for the tournament.
However, it was curtains for the rest of the Indians in fray.
Himmat Rai (75), C Muniyappa (71), Gaurav Ghei (77), Gaurav Singh (80) and Gurki Shergill (79) missed the cut.
Padraig Harrington (67) grabbed the sole lead with a total of 13-under 131. Lin Wen-Teng took the second spot after carding a seven-under 65.
