New Delhi: Racing against time to be ready for the Commonwealth games, the government and Organising Committee today briefed the Heads of the Missions of Commonwealth countries on the infrastructural and security preparations for the October 3 to 14 event here.
The Heads of the Missions were briefed about the infrastructure, security and steps taken to deal with the threat of dengue,” an Organising Committee source said.
The briefing was conducted by Sports Secretary Sindhushree Khullar and Delhi Government’s Cabinet secretary Rakesh Mehta.
The Games have been plagued by delays in construction work of the venues and allegations of corruption. Adding to the organisers’ woes is incessant rain and the rising threat of dengue which might scare away international athletes.
Security was another major concern but apprehensions of the participating nations were allayed after several rounds of briefing by security officials in the past few months.
In a bid to tackle the negative buzz around the Games, the organisers took journalists on a guided tour of the venues.
However, the traffic snarls resulting from digging of roads for beautification and laying of cables has not helped their cause.
