Surat: There was a last minute change of two candidates by the Congress in Navsari district. However, it has reportedly not gone well with a major section of Koli Patel community.
According to a report in the Times of India, the decision of the Congress party not to give the green signal to Kalpana Patel and Dharmesh Patel to contest from Gandevi and Jalalpore respectively has left the Koli Patels annoyed. Both Kalpana and Dharmeshy are members of the community.
Instead, former MLA Kuwarji Halpati has been given ticket from Gandevi and Ranjit Panchal has been given ticket from Jalalpore.
"We are taken aback by the decision of the party," a Koli Patel leader from Jalalpore constituency was quoted as saying by the newspaper. Jalalpore is dominated by voters belonging to the community.
"It will now be difficult for us to motivate our community voters to exercise their right to franchise in someone else`s favour," he added.
The Gujarat Parivartan Party has given ticket to Chandrakant Rana from Jalalpore.
