The Election Commission (EC) is expecting a high voter turnout during the upcoming Gujarat polls in December 2012.
Ahmedabad: The Election Commission (EC) is expecting a high voter turnout during the upcoming Gujarat polls in December 2012.
The Director General of the EC Akshay Raut said, “Gujarat has always been known for its best voter turnout and hoped that the state would maintain its record.”
“A civic education campaign has been launched to motivate all sections of society, including women and youth, to exercise their franchise during the state assembly elections in Gujarat,” Raut added.
As the polling dates are approaching, the EC has been working on three things - information, motivation and facilitation.
The first phase of the Gujarat Assembly polls will take place on December 13 and the second phase will be held on December 17. Counting of votes will take place on December 20.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Congress Leader Indranil Rajyaguru has criticised CM Narendra Modi for not doing enough for the development of the people of Gujarat.
"People of Gujarat know that the incumbent government is talking about development but have not done anything in the last 10 years. But this time, the people of Gujarat is looking for change in the government and I am sure this will happen," Rajyaguru said in Rajkot.
