Gandhinagar: The Election Commission of India has been striving to increase voter turnout in elections across India.
As part of such measures in the poll-bound Gujarat, the EC has been using rap songs and traditional Bhavai to woo electorate to come and vote in the elections in December and improve the turnout from the last Assembly polls.
"We are even using garbas and sanedo to send across the message to the voters that they need to turn out in maximum numbers on the day of the polling in their respective constituencies," sources in the EC told The Times of India.
The EC is even believed to have enrolled local singers for the purpose. The Commission is also banking on the street plays to spread the message.
The EC’s prime target is young voters and women and the content of the plays and songs target these segments.
The EC has also prepared a series of `quickies` to be telecast across the television channels and carry message, among others, not to be lured by cash and gifts, the Times of India reported.
