Rohtak: A series of fitness issues spoilt
his season last year and national champion Arvind Bhat on Monday
said his strategy in 2011 would be to play tournaments only
after achieving complete fitness.
"I paid the price for being unfit. Last year, I was
rushing into playing tournaments without achieving complete
fitness. I think there is where I erred," Arvind told reporters.
"I was otherwise feeling well on court. So this season,
the emphasis would be to train well and then play tournaments
only after being completely fit," he added.
Arvind notched up his second Senior National badminton
championship title today after beating P Kashyap 21-13, 21-17
in the summit clash here and the strapping Indian said he was
very happy with his game.
"I was playing well today. Didn`t have any fitness issue.
I didn`t start well and Kashyap had a 5-point lead but I
caught up with him soon. I was playing more fast rallies and
quick at the nets," he said.
The 31-year-old shuttler said he was not thinking about
ranking now but would look to concentrate on winning
tournaments.
"I am not thinking about ranking now. It is a good start
to the season. I would look to do well in the tournaments and
then see how life pans out," said Arvind, who has slipped to
world number 45.
Struggling with fitness issues, Arvind had a
disappointing season last year as he failed to reach even the
quarterfinals of any international tournament.
