I`m saving goal glut for World Cup, warns Rooney

England striker Wayne Rooney has said that he is saving the goals for the World Cup.

London: England striker Wayne Rooney, who has scored just once in his last seven internationals including a blank against Mexico on Monday, has said that he is saving the goals for the World Cup in South Africa.

"Of course I`d like to score, but that`s the way it is. If it doesn`t happen, I`m glad it`s in a friendly and not in the World Cup," The Sun quoted Rooney, as saying. "Hopefully, I`m saving them up for then. I don`t feel pressure, I try and give my all. I feel good at the minute. I feel good fitness-wise and I`m looking forward to it," he added. Rooney`s last England goal was back in September 2009 against Croatia, but the Player of the Year still finished with 33 goals for his club Manchester United. The 24-year-old further said that though the team won 3-1 against Mexico, they were not satisfied with their performance and will train harder in the coming days. "I`ve trained every session. I have a bit of a stiff neck, but that should pass in a day or two. We were happy to win against Mexico, but the performance wasn`t good enough,""It`s a long season for everyone. I`m quite fortunate in that I haven`t trained a lot in the last six weeks. It`s hard work, it`s a different atmosphere in Austria and your breathing is a bit different, but hopefully when we get out to South Africa we will get the benefit." The Three Lions will now head back to their Austrian boot camp to prepare for Sunday`s final warm-up game against Japan before their World Cup campaign starts against the USA on June 12. ANI
