India win 11 medals in Karate championship

A 11-member Indian karate team returned home with a haul of two gold, two silver and seven bronze medals in the 3rd Asian Goju Ryu Karate Championship held in Kathmandu, Nepal earlier this month.

Mumbai: A 11-member Indian karate team returned home with a haul of two gold, two silver and seven bronze medals in the 3rd Asian Goju Ryu Karate Championship held in Kathmandu, Nepal earlier this month.
The gold medals were won by 12-year-old Payal Wagh and Adesh Gursale who bagged individual kata titles, while Payal added the kumite bronze to her kitty, a release said today. The silver medal winners in kata were 14-year-old Parth Ajmera who won a kata gold in the last championship in Cameroon Highland, Malaysia, and 12-year-old Siddhanth Roashan.The team was coached by 6th Dan Black Belts, Ganesh Dalvi, assistant commissioner, sales tax, and Prakash Wagh, Armed Assistant sub inspector of the State Reserve Police Force. Sixteen countries including China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Iran, Malaysia, Bhutan, Hong Kong, hosts Nepal and India took part in the championship. The 2011 edition of the championship would be held in Chennai, the release added. PTI
