New Delhi: In a first for Indian boxing, national coach Gurbax Singh Sandhu conducted an International Olympic Committee-organised six-day clinic for pugilists in North Korea.
Sandhu, under whose charge the country won its first Olympic medal in boxing through Vijender Singh in the 2008 Games, conducted the clinic between July 21 to 26 in North Korea`s capital of Pyongyang.
Sandhu is the first Indian coach to be invited for conducting an IOC-sanctioned clinic for boxers.
"It was a memorable experience and I feel honoured to have been invited for such a clinic," said Sandhu.
"What I could gauge there was that North Korea has some excellent boxers but they do need good mentors to guide them," he added.
