Kashyap, seeded 14th, beat Malaysian Chun Seang Tan 21-16, 22-20 in 30 minutes, while seventh seed Chetan defeated Kay Bin Yeoh 21-16, 21-16 in a 26-minute clash in the first round.RMV Gurusaidatt struggled his way to the second round after beating Wing Ki Wong of Hong Kong 22-20, 14-21, 21-17 in a 49-minute grueling battle while 10th seed Arvind Bhat survived a scare from Malaysian Daren Liew before edging him past 17-21, 21-11, 21-9 in 45 minutes. However, it was end of road for Ajay Jayaram and Olympian Anup Sridhar. Ajay stumbled went down 13-21, 17-21 against Suppanyu Avihingsanon in just 25 minutes while Anup lost to 11th seed Chinese Long Chen 12-21, 15-21 in 30 minutes to be the first round casualty.
