Chandigarh, June 11: Even in the times of recession,
the total IT exports from Chandigarh zoomed by close to 50 per
cent to Rs. 750 crore in 2008-09 against Rs. 504 crore in 2007-08.
"The growth in the software exports has been mainly
attributed due to the operationalisation of several big IT
companies such Infosys and 40 other companies from DLF
Infocity," said spokesman in a release issued here today.
With exports from Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park
(RGCTP) constituting 80 per cent of software exports, the
exports from it grew by 58.6 per cent to Rs. 617 crore in 2008-09
against Rs. 389 crore in year ago period.
He said that since the operationalisation of RGCTP, the
software exports have registered impressive growth figures.
The software exports from RGCTP in 2005-06 were nil, which
went up to Rs. 190.21 crore in 2006-07. The software exports
RGCTP shown were up from Rs 190 crore to Rs. 390 crore in the
year 2007-08 to Rs 617 crores in 2008-09.
He informed that with more Campus and BTS sites nearing
completion, it is estimated that the Software Exports from
RGCTP would grow exponentially once all the IT Companies, who have
allotted plots in the RGCTP, become operational.
