ITTF corrects rankings, Sharath world no 39 not 45

Star Indian paddler reached his career-high ranking of 39, courtesy revision of the list by the ITTF.

New Delhi: Olympian Achanta Sharath Kamal`s meteoric rise in world ranking continued as the star Indian paddler reached his career-high ranking of 39, courtesy revision of the list by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
According to the world ranking list which was revised yesterday, Sharath enjoys the 39th spot in the chart. Sharath on Thursday created history when he became the first Indian to break into the top 50 and was placed at the 45th position in August`s chart. However, a correction carried out by the ITTF yesterday gave Sharath more reasons to celebrate as he found himself in the top 40 bracket when points from the US Open title was taken into account.Sharath has been progressing steadily in the world ranking this year, courtesy some excellent performances in the international circuit, which includes the US Open singles and and the Egypt Pro Tour titles at Cairo. Sharath had achieved his earlier career-best ranking of 67 in July last year.The revised rankings also benefited A Amalraj and Subhajit Saha. While by virtue of the revision, Amalraj moved up two places to 191, Subhajit climbed three spots to 207. Soumyadeep Roy, however, slipped one rung to 241. PTI
