Juventus name Del Neri as new manager

Juventus appointed Luigi Del Neri as their new manager on a two year contract.

Rome: Juventus appointed former Sampdoria coach Luigi Del Neri as their new manager on a two year contract.
The 59-year-old Italian succeeds Alberto Zaccheroni, who was appointed caretaker coach of the Turin club following the sacking of Ciro Ferrari in January. Del Neri, a midfielder in his playing days who quit Sampdoria on Monday, started out on his managerial career by taking Serie B side Chievo into Europe. He then had an unhappy time at FC Porto where he replaced Jose Mourinho only to be given his marching orders by the then European champions after a matter of weeks.A 24-match spell at Roma in 2004-2005 followed before a move to Palermo and then back to Chievo. From 2007 to 2009 he succeeded in maintaining Atalanta`s topflight status in Serie A before being hired by Sampdoria, who have just sealed qualification for next season`s Champions League after finishing fourth.Juventus could only finish seventh in the Serie A campaign just concluded to claim the third and final spot for next season`s Europa League.
