Agra: Former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh`s
Jankranti Party today released its manifesto for UP assembly
polls, promising quota in government jobs to women, but
opposed religion-based reservation and pledged to work for the
"If the Jankranti Party comes to power, it would support
separate reservation for women of backward castes, scheduled
castes, scheduled tribes and Adivasis within the 33 per cent
reservation for women in Parliament and state assembly,"
ex-MLA Kesho Mehra said at the party office here.
The party also promised 20 per cent reservation in
government jobs for women and free higher education for girls.
He said farmers would receive free water and power for
irrigation and interest-free loans for five years with 1
per cent interest late on.
Opposing religion-based reservations, the manifesto
said both Hindu and Muslim backward castes already enjoy
reservation under Mandal Commission provisions.
The party is against granting further reservation to
Muslims from the existing quota of 27 per cent for backwards,
