New Delhi: Kolkata`s Netaji Indoor stadium will host the 72nd Senior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships from January 17 to 23.
A total of 31 states, including 2 institutions will participate in the men`s team event, while in the women`ssection 27 states, including 2 institutions, will vie for top honours.
According to a Table Tennis Federation of India release, for the first time Arunachal Pradesh will be participating both in the men`s and women`s team championship.
Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) has been awarded the top billing in the men`s as well as women`s team event, the statement added.
The PSPB team comprises of Delhi Commonwealth Games men`s doubles gold medalist pair of Achanta Sharath Kamal and Subhajit Saha, bronze medalist duo of Soumyadeep Roy and A Amalraj while the women`s side will have the likes of K Shamini, Madhurika Patkar and Mouma Das.
All the 32 states have been divided into eight groups where they will play each other on the round robin league format. The top teams from each group will qualify for the knock-out stage.
The total prize money for the event is approximately Rs 8 lacs with the men`s singles champion taking home Rs 1,87, while winner in the women`s singles pocketing Rs 1,20,000, the statement said.
