Mahanand passes away after prolonged battle with sickness

Former India lifter Wg Cdr (Retd) P K Mahanand passed away at the Army Hospital here on Sunday.

New Delhi: Former India lifter Wg Cdr (Retd) P K Mahanand passed away at the Army Hospital here on Sunday.

He was 73 and was fighting a losing battler with diabetes related complications. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.

His burial will take place on Monday.
A national level weight lifter, Mahanand served Indian sports in various capacities as he worked as an administrator, government observer, coach, trainer, sports writer, journalist and Radio/TV commentator.

Kunjurani Devi, a multiple international medallist, was one of his trainees.
