Puducherry: Opposition AIADMK on Tuesday demanded that
CBI probe the `irregularities and scams` Puducherry government
has allegedly committed in selecting candidates under sports
quota for admission to MBBS course in 2011-2012 academic year.
The Centralised Admission Committee of Puducherry
government selecting candidates for professional courses has
ignored the existence of seven-member committee to assess the
genuineness and eligibility of the disciplines of sports and
certificates issued by associations for selecting candidates,
AIADMK Puducherry unit secretary A Anbalagan told reporters.
An ad hoc committee was formed without any rhyme or reason
which has cleared the certificates presented by the candidates
as acceptable, he alleged.
Certificates that are not eligible and were submitted by
functionaries of certain associations were accepted and
admission was sanctioned to the candidates, he charged.
Anbalagan appealed to the Chief Minister to convene the
Assembly session so that members could have a clear picture of
allocation for different sectors out of Rs 2750 crore
sanctioned under the annual plan by the Planning Commission.
