Margao: Sporting Clube de Goa are desperately looking for a win when they face Mahindra United on Wednesday to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive in the 24th round match of the I-League at Nehru Stadium.
Sporting, lying at the bottom with 21 points from 23 matches, must win tomorrow as they are four points behind 12th place Mumbai FC who have 25 points.
Bibaino Fernandes is out due to double booking and will be replaced by Michael Tayo in the midfield. Joseph Pereira, who has a niggling injury, is also a doubtful starter.
In his absence, Sporting will be looking to young Adil Khan who has been a revelation in the I-League. He has performed well in the midfield in the absence of other key players due to injury and has ability to score goals.
Sporting coach Vishwas Gaonkar is hopeful that his boys will give good account of themselves tomorrow to collect full points against Mahindra United whose morale is low after their team management decided to disband the team next season.
"We are playing well as a team and were unlucky to loose against Dempo in the previous match after taking lead, as we defended well after that until Roberto Silva produced two stunning goals to tilt the match in Dempo`s favour. The draw against East Bengal in their last match will also help the boys to play with more confident tomorrow," stated Gaonkar.
Title aspirant Mahindra United hope winning the title is almost over as they are now 9 points behind leaders Dempo after two losses, who are leading the table with 47 points.
The management call to disband the team next season also came as a rude shock to the players who are now low of confident.
Mahindra`s coach David Booth is hoping that his boys put up a collective effort against sporting Clube de Goa who will come all out at us as they require a win badly to avoid relegation, stated Booth.
