Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Deputy Chief Minister Sudesh Mahto said that the National Games would be held in the state after the panchayat elections beginning November 27.
"We are committed to hold the National Games, which had been postponed seven times for various reasons including political instability, incomplete infrastructure and weather conditions. We will hold them after the panchayat polls," said Mahto, also looking after the Sports Ministry.
The panchayat polls are being held in Jharkhand after a gap of 33 years. The polls begin on November 27 and will end in the middle of December.
Mahto, who was in the steel city here to take part in his AJSU Party`s function, said the government has even set a tentative dates for the National Games in February and will be meeting with the officials of Indian Olympic Association to finalise it.
"We will be meeting the officials of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) after they will return from the ongoing Asian Games in Guangzhou," he said.
