Madrid: Real Zaragoza`s new president Agapito Iglesias apologised for past mistakes in a New Year message to fans of the struggling Spanish club.
Agapito took over as president on Wednesday after the resignation of Eduardo Bandres and his board and said Zaragoza had failed to achieve the aims he set out when he became majority shareholder three years ago."The first thing I want to do, having taken on the role (of president) is ask sincere forgiveness for all our mistakes," he said on the club`s website on Friday. "We have 23 league games left, a lot of months of football which we are facing with a slight disadvantage but in which everything is still possible."Promoted Zaragoza sacked coach Marcelino last month after a poor run and moved Jose Aurelio Gay up from second team manager. Gay`s first match was a 6-0 thrashing at Real Madrid that left them second from bottom in La Liga with 12 points from 15 games. Bureau Report
