Berlin: Nigerian hurdler Amaka Ogoegbunam tested positive for steroids and was suspended for the rest of the world championships. She is the second athlete to fail a drug test at the worlds following steeplechaser Jamal Chatbi of Morocco.
Ogoegbunam was disqualified from the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles Tuesday. Track and field`s governing body said Friday that Ogoegbunam tested positive for the anabolic steroid metenolone after the race. The 19-year-old Nigerian also was to have run in the 1,600-meter relay. "She`s been provisionally suspended and so won`t take part in the competition from now on," IAAF spokesman Nick Davies said. In such doping cases, athletes can ask for their "B" sample to be tested. Davies said Ogoegbunam did not make such a request.
