Patna: As Chief Minister Narendra Modi was elected to the Gujarat Assembly on Thursday, the Janata Dal (United) congratulated him, but said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is a better Prime Ministerial candidate.
JD(U) leader Nitish has repeatedly in the past said that his party will not accept Modi as NDA’s prime ministerial candidate and will break the alliance with BJP.
Narendra Modi today retained Maninagar constituency in Ahmedabad`s outskirts by more than 70,000 votes.
Modi defeated Congress` Shweta Bhatt, wife of suspended police officer Sanjeev Bhatt, officials said. The widely expected victory triggered noisy celebrations by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters.
In 2007, Modi had won the elections by more than 87,000 votes.
The BJP appears all set to come to power in Gujarat for the third consecutive term.
