Jamshedpur: The weightlifting event of the National Games will be held without any hiccup as the damaged equipment will be replaced soon, Himani Pandey, Chairperson of the Games’ Co-ordination Committee (NGCC), said here on Friday.
The four-day event will begin from February 22.
The NGCC has already informed the Organising Committee and other concerned authorities in Ranchi and have requested for an early replacement.
“We are expecting the replacement of the damaged equipment as well as warm up platform soon,” Pandey, the East Singhbhum district Deputy Commissioner said adding that the supplier of the equipment have despatched the consignment so that the competition could be held on time.The equipments including imported laminated wooden competition platforms, training-cum-warm up platforms were found in a bad state after being stored in open in JRD Tata Sports complex where termites damaged it badly.
On the preparation aspect, Pandey said a contingent of 25 sportspersons including women’s football team of Manipur has already arrived in the steel city, host of five event- archery, boxing, equestrian, women’s football and weightlifting.
Expressing confidence that the Games in Jamshedpur will be a grand success, she said the budget allocated for the events in Jamshedpur was Rs. 2.59 crore and it would be expanded under contingency plan to accomodate additional 100 people.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Akhilesh Kumar Jha and Superintendent of Police (City), Jatin Narwal, who were also present at the press meet, said adequate security arrangement have been made to maintain law and order.Apart from the existing district police force, Narwal said para-military force and 400 home guards jawans will be pressed into service to ensure hassle free games.
