No rift in Cong: Kalita

Dismissing charges of rift among top leaders on candidate selection for the ensuing assembly poll, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) said the matter will be decided at a meeting of the election committee.

Guwahati: Dismissing charges of rift among
top leaders on candidate selection for the ensuing assembly
poll, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Sunday said
the matter will be decided at a meeting of the election
committee.
"There is absolutely no concern. The issue of
candidate selection will be decided at a two day-pradesh
election committee meeting starting March 8", APCC president
Bhubaneswar Kalita told reporters .

The election committee meeting will be followed by a
three-day screening committee meet starting March 10 while the
list of candidates are expected to be announced before March
15, Kalita said.
Announcing that Congress president Sonia Gandhi and
prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh will be among the star
campaigners for the polls, Kalita said the draft of election
manifesto has already been prepared and the final document
will be published by the third week of this month.

As electioneering will be hectic with possibly four to
five meetings scheduled for the day, the party has
requsitioned two helicopters for leaders to travel to distant
corners of the state, he said.
