Around 20 million German debit cards and 3.5 million credit cards have been hit by a software bug related to adapting to the new year, the country`s savings bank association said on Tuesday.

The problem has hindered cardholders trying to use cash machines or make payments throughout the country and abroad and is linked to software unable to recognise the year 2010.
