Paes steady, Sania drops further in tennis rankings
Leander Paes, who clinched his 12th Grand Slam with the Wimbledon mixed doubles` title, remained steady at sixth in the ATP list but Sania Mirza`s free-fall continued in the WTA chart.
New Delhi: Veteran Indian tennis ace Leander Paes, who clinched his 12th Grand Slam with the Wimbledon mixed doubles` title, remained steady at sixth in the ATP list but Sania Mirza`s free-fall continued in the WTA chart issued on Monday.
Paes, who partnered Zimbabwean Cara Black to lift his sixth mixed doubles Grand Slam on Monday in London, has 5,960 points in the doubles rankings.
With the Wimbledon triumph, Paes went one better than his estranged partner Mahesh Bhupathi in the number of Grand Slams titles and he maintains that upperhand even in rankings.
Bhupathi, who along with Belarussian partner Max Mirnyi made a third-round exit from the Wimbledon, is seventh on the chart with 5,110 points.
In the WTA list, the dip continues for Sania, who made a first-round exit from the Wimbledon.
From last week`s 111, Sania has now dropped to 132nd spot with 497 points to her credit.
The Hyderabadi, however, remained steady on the doubles chart at 92nd with 857 points.
Meanwhile, Wimbledon quarterfinal appearance paid dividends for Rohan Bopanna as he jumped 14 rungs to figure 38th in the doubles individual rankings.
Bopanna, who paired up with Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan in the Wimbledon doubles, now has 1751 points in his kitty.
The Indo-Pak combo had lost to Austrian-German pair of Juergen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner in the final-eight stage.
