“The attempt to infiltrate foreign mercenaries belonging to Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba outfit was scuttled in Qazinag area of Kupwara district when troops shot dead two Pakistani intruders on Wednesday night,” a defence ministry spokesman said in Srinagar.
He said that security forces noticed a group of militants trying to sneak into Kashmir valley from across the border through Qazinag.
The intruders were signaled to stop and surrender. Instead, they opened fire and in the encounter that followed, two foreign mercenaries were killed, he said, adding an AK assault rifle, a pistol, a hand grenade and some ammunition were recovered from their possession.
