Madrid: Reports from Spain suggest that Paul the oracle octopus could be set for a transfer from his Oberhausen home to Madrid zoo.
The infamous invertebrate, which successfully predicted eight World Cup results including Spain`s historic final win over Netherlands, is apparently set for a switch to the Spanish capital at the behest of football fans, according to AS.
The proposed exchange will see another animal from Madrid heading in the opposite direction to the Sea Life Aquarium in Oberhausen and it is suggested that their may even be financial compensation as part of the deal.
Paul, the Octopus in an Oberhausen aquarium who has `predicted` eight results correctly at this summer`s World Cup finals, is to end his career as a tipster.
The octopus has been making `predictions` for the outcome of World Cup games by taking a mussel from one of the plastic boxes in his tank emblazoned with the competing team`s flags.
But, like all great performers, Paul has now decided to end his career on a high and will be going back to the day job.
"The intuitive inverterbrate will go into retirement and do what he likes to do best," a Sea Life Oberhausen Aquariuam spokeswoman confirmed.
"Play with his handlers and delight children who come to visit him."
Paul is also invited to an annual Octopus festival in O Carballino, a town in Galicia, Spain.
Furthermore he was awarded with honorary citizenship of the town and some businessmen collected 30,000 euros with the intention to buy the fortuneteller.
Paul has become a symbol of Spain´s World Cup victory. Andres Iniesta, who scored the winning goal in the final, was carrying a plastic octopus as the team were welcomed in Madrid, Spain, this week.
