Reports claimed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh`s representative on the Organising Committee, Jarnail Singh, knew and approved of the time scoring deal, which has led to the arrest of Suresh Kalmadi.
New Delhi: In another revelation pertaining to the scandal marred Commonwealth Games, reports claimed, Thursday, that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh`s representative on the Organising Committee, Jarnail Singh, knew and approved of the time scoring deal, which has led to the arrest of Suresh Kalmadi.
Basing its report on letters allegedly written by Jarnail Singh – in his capacity as CEO of the Games OC - to the sports ministry, a news channel claimed that the Singh had personally approved the deal.
The Timing, Scoring and Result contract was awarded to a Swiss company at highly inflated cost of Rs 141 crore.
The report also questioned the role of CGF bosses Mike Hooper and Mike Fennel as the two had agreed to the deal being signed at very high prices. They had argued that any further delay would have jeopardised the Delhi Games.
However, Fennel and Hooper later said that went by the recommendations of the CWG OC, which was in turn accepted by the Indian government.
Taking a dig at the situation, BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitaraman said, “This lays it all bare. This is a cover-up. Shunglu committee has put layers and CBI is happily overlooking many people.
