Punjab: Cong man booked for liquor distribution

A case has been registered against a Congress candidate for allegedly violating Model Code of Conduct by distributing booze to lure voters.

Jalandhar: A case has been registered against a Congress candidate for allegedly violating Model Code of Conduct by distributing booze to lure voters, a senior police official said Thursday.

was booked under Section 171 of IPC after a private news
channel`s sting operation showed liquor being distributed to
voters through slips issued by Beri`s office, ADCP
(Headquarters) Navjot Singh Mahal said.

"A case has been registered against Beri after it came to
know from the string operation that shop owner gave the liquor
bottles to (undercover reporter) customer according to the
slip," Mahal said.

Central Returning Officer Iqbal Singh Sandhu said the
case was registered last night after the sting operation was
shown on the channel in evening hours.

Further investigations are on, the ADCP added.
