Randhawa tied 34th after Rd 1, Chowrasia risks cut

Malmo: Jyoti Randhawa`s sedate, if not spectacular, even-par opening round of 73 had him tied 34th but compatriot SSP Chowrasia risks missing the cut after carding eight-over 81 in the SAS Masters golf tournament.Randhawa was understandably cautious after missing quite a few cuts in recent past and the lanky Indian mixed two bogeys and as many birdies to settle for an even-par card at the Barseback Golf and County Club.

In contrast, Chowrasia had a nightmare in store for him. Apart from the 12th hole birdie, the diminutive Kolkata pro had nothing to show. Chowrasia`s round was doomed in the front nine itself as he bogeyed seven of the nine holes, including six on the trot. On his way back, Chowrasia dropped two more strokes to find himself in a precarious position. Lee Slattery blasted six-under 67 to take the opening round lead with the long-hitting Ricardo Gonzalez breathing down his neck one shot behind. Bureau Report
