Patiala: Campaigning energetically for what
many would call a losing battle, SAD candidate Surjit Singh Kohli, who is pitted against Congress candidate and PCC chief
Capt Amarinder Singh from Patiala constituency is citing his
"accessibility" as a major poll plank.
"Look, I am with you and more accessible than the
Congress candidate Maharaja sahib", Kohli told a small
gathering in the house of S K Pathi, a BJP leader of Badunger
Kohli is up against Capt Amarinder Singh for the second time. Singh is seeking re-election from his home town.
He claimed that Singh had shifted his base from Patiala
to Chandigarh, and was only serving as a "proxy MLA."
"He has no time even in elections to canvass himself and
he is proxy MLA since last 10 years, whereas despite being
defeated I am serving you at your doorsteps. So defeat Captain
to teach him a lesson".
"He is been represented by his MP wife and central
minister Preneet Kaur here and she has no time to meet the
people of Patiala," Kohli said.
He said his family has been serving people of Patiala
since 1947 when they migrated here after the partition, and
promised "all round development" to Patiala if elected.
Kohli was elected from here in 1997 by defeating Congress
candidate Brahm Mohindra, to become a minister in the Parkash
Singh Badal government (1997-2002).
