Sangrur, Mar 11: A local court today annulled the
marriage of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) chief Jagtar Singh
Hawara with Balwinder Kaur observing that Hawara solemnized
his marriage with Kaur concealing his antecedents as a dreaded
terrorist.

The petition for annulment of marriage by Balwinder was
adjourned on March three for consideration after filing of
three affidavits as witnesses in the court in the wake of
ex-parte proceedings against Hawara ordered by the court on
February 17.

The affidavits filed by Balwinder, her father Dara Singh
and a relative Balwant Singh in the fast track court cum
Additional District Judge (adhoc) Jaspal Singh Chug narrated
that they were innocent and were duped and defrauded by
Hawara introducing him as Sahib Singh settled in Canada.

They accused Hawara of concealing the fact that he was
already married and was yet to divorce his previous wife. "Had
she been aware of the fact that Sahib Singh is Jagtar Singh
Hawara, she would not have been consented to marry him", the
petitioner said.

On the last date of hearing of petition filed under
Section 12 of Hindu Marriage Act, the court had observed that
the "postal receipt shows that summons were posted on January
9, so there is presumption that summons have been duly served
upon Hawara, hence proceeded against ex-parte".

Balwinder, who is lodged in Sangrur district jail facing
charges of sedition and cases under the Explosive Substances
Act, claimed that her father and relatives were told by one
Pargat Singh that mother and two sisters of Hawara are living
in Canada while father had died.

Pargat who is facing trial with Balwinder, allegedly
claimed himself to be the uncle of Hawara, the affidavits
revealed.

Balwinder alleged that the co-accused in the criminal
trial against her, including Sukhdev Singh, who was earlier a
Granthi at a Gurdwara in her native village Dohla, and Pargat
Singh played the role of match makers.

The duo in league with Hawara pressurised her father into
agreeing for the marriage. Otherwise her father had been
hesitant to marry her off to some one from abroad due to the
frauds often committed by NRIs, she claimed.

She said about a month before their wedding, the
matchmakers vowed before the Guru Granth Sahib that they were
not lying about the antecedents of the groom.

Balwinder claimed she had stayed with Sahib Singh for just
11 days, after which she was dropped off at her parent's
house where Hawara stayed for a day.

Balwinder was arrested on June 19 last year during a Naka
at Benra village near Dhuri.

Hawara is lodged in Burail jail at Chandigarh.
