Mumbai: Women`s top seed Saumya Karki and men`s second seed Mahesh Mangaonkar stormed into the finals of the Rs eight lakh Otters Open Squash tournament on Friday.
City-lad Mangaonkar beat third seed Gaurav Nandrajog of Delhi 3-1 after dropping the opening set, to set up a title clash against top seed and defending champion Harinderpal Singh Sandhu, who overcame No. 5 Abhishek Pradhan in straight sets.
Karki, who earned a double in the last edition, moved one step closer to retaining the women`s crown with an 11-8 11-9 11-4 win over fourth seed Deepali Parekh in a tight contest. Karki will play second seed Shria Khatri in the final.
The juniors instead stole the limelight with Aakansha Salunkhe of Goa avenging her under-15 quarter-final loss to Ashita Bengra of Tamil Nadu in a thrilling under-13 semi-final.
Under-15 sixth seed Jui Kalgutkar of Chembur Gymkhana, who shocked third seed Shruti Laxmi of Tamil Nadu in the quarter-finals, upset second seed Aishwarya Nambiar 3-2.
