New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday granted bail to CWG scam accused and a key aide of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi, TS Darbari.

Citing lack of enough evidence as the reason, the Delhi HC said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had failed to file a chargesheet against the accused.

The bail plea of M Jayachandran, another prime accused in the scam will be taken
up later.
Talking to reporters, Darbari’s lawyer Tanvir Ahmed said that there are no allegations against Darbari and that the CBI had failed to file a chargesheet. He also said that Darbari was ready to co-operate in every way required.

Darbari and M Jayachandran, former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee officials, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the Queen`s Baton Relay scam.

On Tuesday, Justice Hima Kohli had adjourned the hearing till Friday.

Defence counsel submitted before the court that the two should be granted bail if the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) fails to file a charge sheet against them on or before Jan 14.
“My clients are in judicial custody for the last 56 days, therefore, the bail should be allowed. The CBI is not going to file any charge sheet,” said the counsel.

Darbari, a former aide of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi, was arrested Nov 15 by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the Queen`s Baton Relay scam.

Jayachandran, who was sacked as the committee`s treasurer, was arrested Nov 21 for making suspicious payments to an Indian-owned London-based private firm AM Car and Van Hire Limited.
