Agartala: Seven militants of Manipur-based outlawed outfit People`s United Liberation Front-Azad (PULF-Azad), including its army chief and his wife, have been arrested, police said here on Sunday.
The arrests were made yesterday from Nagerjala bus stand after police suspected their movement. During interrogation, the militants admitted that they had gone to Bangladesh in March this year and crossed over to Tripura to enter into Manipur.
They were later produced before a local court which remanded them to two days of judicial custody.
Four mobile handsets and Rs 50,000 in cash were recovered from their possession, they said.
The arrested have been identified as PULF-Azad armed force chief Abdur Rahaman, his wife Shamima, Mohammed Jamir, Mohammad Nazir Ahmad, Abdul Kashim and Firoz Khan.
A special interrogation team from Manipur will arrive here tomorrow.
