New Delhi: Olympians Achanta Sharath Kamal
and Neha Aggarwal are among the 20 probables picked for the
19th Asian Table Tennis Championships, to be held in Lucknow
from November 16-22.
New women`s national champion Kumaresan Shamini, highest
placed Indian in world ranking Mouma Das (191th) and her
doubles partner, former national champion Poulomi Ghatak also
figured in the 10-member women`s list.
In the men`s probables, apart from world number 71
Sharath, former India number one Subhajit Saha, Sourav
Chakraborty and A Amal Raj were included.
Selectors yesterday met on the sidelines of National
Ranking (Central Zone) Championship in Gandhidham to pick
probables for the tournament, which is considered one of the
most important events before Delhi hosts the Commonwealth
Games next year.
National coach Massimo Constantini of Italy and Bhawani
Mukherjee, chief SAI coach for table tennis would be with the
paddlers during the tournament.
Final squad for the tournament would be announced after
National Ranking Championships (East Zone) at Siliguri, West
Bengal in November.
Secretary of Table Tennis Federation of India Dhanraj
Chaudhary, former players Kamlesh Mehta, Manjit Sigh Dua and
government-appointed observer Indu Puri were among present at
the meeting.
