Shillong Lajong through to semis

Guwahati: Shillong Lajong and Pune FC played out a 1-1 draw in an evenly contested thrilling Group D match, a result which sends Lajong to the last four, and Pune FC out of the Federation Cup.

Both the teams were locked 1-1 at the lemon break which saw some good entertaining football from both the teams at the Nehru Stadium. Pune FC needed full three points ,while North Eastern outfit just needed a draw from the match to stay in contention for the semi-finals.There were few chances early in the first half to both teams but it was Kyryshang Lyngshing who put Shillong Lajong ahead in the 31st minute. Tuboi sent a throw in from the right flank which landed inside the box, Pune FC defenders could not control the ball as the ball fell in for Kyryshang, who made no mistake to slot in his right footer just from five yards.Pune FC equalised in the 42nd minute through a penalty. S Venkatesh right footer was brushed past the hand of Anil Gurung inside the box and the resultant spot kick was converted easily by Douhou beating Gumpe Rime the wrong way. Second half also saw both the teams putting their best foot forward to find the winner but the end the match ended on a neutral note. PTI
