Brunei: Siddikur Rahman became the first Bangladeshi golfer to win on the Asian Tour when he triumphed in a play-off at the Brunei Open on Sunday.
"It is very exciting. I`m the first Bangladeshi to play on the Asian Tour and in the two years that I`m on Tour, I have finally won a tournament," the 25-year-old, who learned the game by putting an iron head onto a metal rod for his first golf club, told the tour website.
"I hope to inspire more people to take up the game of golf in Bangladesh. This is a good victory for me and my country," he added following his play-off victory after finishing on 16-under par through 72 holes.
Co-overnight leader Siddikur secured his career breakthrough with a four at the first extra hole par-four 18th after Jbe Kruger of South Africa missed a 10-foot par putt.
