Djokovic says no ‘clear favourite’ in US Open final against Murray

London: Defending champion Novak Djokovic stormed into his third consecutive US Open final beating David Ferrer 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, to set up a clash with world number four Andy Murray, and the Serbian ace believes there would be no clear favourite in the final.

The victory gave Djokovic a year-leading 60th win and extended his winning run at hard court Grand Slams to 27 matches. Djokovic will be aiming for a sixth major in Monday’s final while third-seed Murray, who trails the Serb 8-6 in career meetings, is bidding to become Britain’s first men’s Grand Slam champion since Fred Perry in 1936. Djokovic believes Murray would be at his best in the final, as he has the extra motivation to win his first Grand Slam title. “Against Andy, there will be no clear favourite. He’s going for a first Grand Slam and will be very motivated. Hopefully we will both come up with our best tennis,” Sports24 quoted Djokovic, as saying. Another Grand Slam win for the world number two would mean Djokovic, Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal have won 30 out of the last 31 majors. ANI
