Stosur hits stride on French Open return
Samantha Stosur swept into the second round with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Czech Iveta Benesova.
Paris: Last year`s beaten French Open finalist Samantha Stosur swept into the second round of the 2011 tournament with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Czech Iveta Benesova at Roland Garros on Sunday.
Eighth seed Stosur, beaten by Italy`s Francesca Schiavone in the 2010 decider, will now face Romanian teenager Simona Halep, who thrashed Russia`s Alla Kudryavtseva 6-2, 6-1.
Stosur was broken in her opening service game when she snatched at a backhand and sent it into the tramlines but she broke back immediately and then broke again to go 4-1 ahead.
The 27-year-old Australian converted her second set point when Benesova, the world number 52, miscued a stretching forehand and Stosur concluded a straightforward victory with a love service game in the second set.
