Panaji: Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam Thursday
said the party would take action against its leaders if they were found guilty by the Justice M B Shah Commission which is
probing the illegal mining in Goa.
Nirupam, who is here to campaign for March 3 assembly
polls, said Congress had made it clear that it denounced
illegal mining, while encouraging the legal mining.
Noting that Shah Commission had not yet submitted the
report to the Centre, he said, "Even after the election, if
any Congress leader is found guilty, the action would be taken
"What kind of action, will be decided by the high
command. We can`t say what action would be taken."
BJP, which is the main opposition party in the state, had
accused Congress of suppressing the Commission`s report
fearing implications for the forthcoming polls.
But Nirupam said there was no question of suppressing
the report as it was yet to be submitted.
"As far as I know, Shah Commission was given 18 months
to investigate, and its deadline is not yet over," he added.
