Chennai, Dec 26: The DMK`s top policy making body, the general council, will meet here tomorrow to elect its President, General Secretary, Treasurer and a four-member
audit committee, to scrutinise the party`s accounts.
The party has completed its 13th organisational polls, right from village level and elected district-level office bearers.
The newly elected general council members, numbering over 1,900 and district level office bearers will constitute the general council and will be in office for the next five years.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was elected the party president for a ninth term during the general council meeting on June 2, 2003 after the 12th organisational polls.
He is set to be elected for his tenth term in the general council meeting tomorrow.
His son M K Stalin is all set to move up in the party hierarchy as he is expected to be elected party treasurer, the third highest post in the DMK. K Anbazhagan, the present
general secretary, will also be re-elected for the post for a record eighth term.
Stalin was made deputy general secretary in 2003 and assigned fourth place in the party hierarchy.
Arcot N Veerasamy, who was made treasurer after the death of senior DMK leader S J Sadiq Pasha in 1993, had himself proposed the name of Stalin for the post.
All 33 district units had proposed the names of Karunanidhi for the presidentship, Anbazhagan for general secretary and Stalin for treasurer, a post occupied by his
father till 1969.
