Tributes paid to Kannada writer Shantarasa

A large number of Kannada writers, artists and academicians on Sunday paid rich tributes to distinguished Kannada writer and poet Shantarasa who died in Gulbarga on April 13.

New Delhi, April 20: A large number of Kannada writers, artists and academicians on Sunday paid rich tributes to distinguished Kannada writer and poet Shantarasa who died in Gulbarga on April 13.
In a condolence meeting organised by 'Dehali Kannadiga', a Kannada monthly published from Delhi, its editor M B Samaga said, "Shantarasa started a new era in Kannada literature in Hyderabad-Karnataka region and had written more than 50 books including novels, poetry, dramas, autobiography, short stories and translations."

Shantarasa, who translated ghazals from Urdu to Kannada, also received 'Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award' in 1985 and Kannada University 'Nadoja' award in 2008. He also served as president of Karnataka Sahitya Academy (1995-98).

Samaga announced an award to be instituted by 'Dehali Kannadiga' in memory of Shantarasa.
